April in Marrakech and Beyond

hotel marrackechWhat's the April weather like in Marrakech?

With its glorious spring climate April in Marrakech becomes a riot of colour as spectacular displays of bougainvillea, hibiscus and other flowering shrubs burst out across the city. This month sees around 10 hours of daily sunshine with temperatures averaging 18˚c (lows of 12˚ and highs of 24˚). There is very little risk of prolonged or heavy rain (barely 30 mm), most of it falling in just a few days.

April is thus the ideal time for sightseeing within the city, taking in its gardens, excellent museums and other major attractions without having to contend with the oppressive heat of summer.

This is also the perfect time to take a trip up into the ever-present Atlas Mountains to discover the lush valleys against a backdrop of soaring, snow-capped peaks and impressive waterfalls, Portuguese fortresses and ancient Berber villages. During snow melt, especially, the upland scenery is enhanced by vistas of mountain flora in full bloom. Many such trips, with transportation and a professional guide provided, will also include little-known scenic locations with impressive waterfalls and lush valleys dotted with fruit farms.

Under normal circumstances April would see the Marrakech tourist season in full swing although, sadly, that’s not the case this year, or indeed last. However, here, for the benefit of those who like to plan ahead, is a reminder of what is usually on offer in and around Marrakech during April with particular reference to its festivals and other major events.
